Seasonal cleanups and hurricane season checklist
Yards in Southport collect different debris through the year. Here is what to expect and what to do about it.
| Season | Typical debris | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Spring | Winter-killed growth, fallen limbs, pine needles | Cut back dead growth and clear beds before mulching. |
| Summer | Hedge trimmings and storm debris | Clear debris promptly so it does not smother the lawn. |
| Fall | Leaves, limbs and needles | Clear leaves before they mat on the lawn and clog gutters and drains. |
| Winter | Limbs from winter weather | Clear fallen limbs and plan next season’s bed work. |
Hurricane season checklist
Hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30. Do these jobs well before a storm is forecast:
- Trim dead or weak limbs.
- Remove loose debris, old lumber and anything that could blow around.
- Keep gutters and drains on your property clear of leaves.
- Secure or store outdoor furniture and planters.
- After the storm, clear fallen limbs from the lawn and beds quickly, and call us for large piles.
How a cleanup or junk removal job works
- You call us and describe what needs to go. The more detail you can give, the better the quote.
- We give you a price before we start.
- We schedule a day that works for you.
- We load and haul everything away.
- We rake or sweep the area when we finish.
Example scenario
This is an illustration of a typical job, not a customer story. After a summer storm, a homeowner has limbs and leaves piled at the back of the lot, plus some old scrap lumber from the shed. The piles are too big for a curbside bag, and yard waste cannot go in regular trash. We look at the pile, quote a price, haul it all away in one visit and rake the area so it is ready for mulch.
Combine a cleanup with other work
A cleanup is often the first step in a bigger refresh. Once debris is gone, you can add mulch installation or set up a monthly lawn care plan so the yard stays tidy.

Frequently asked questions
Can I put yard waste in my regular trash?
No. Brunswick County does not collect yard waste with normal trash, and North Carolina bans yard waste from landfills. Take it to a convenience center, use a community pickup program if you have one, or hire us to haul it.
Do you haul appliances?
Ask us before you book. Appliances are banned from curbside trash in Brunswick County, so they need a separate disposal route.
Do you take paint, oil or other hazardous waste?
No. Those items need special handling. Use the county’s household hazardous waste collection.
Can I donate usable furniture instead of throwing it away?
Possibly. The Brunswick County Swap Shop at the landfill accepts usable furniture items, but not cloth or broken items.
How is the price set?
